Laurie Gilbert

Laurie Gilbert

My name is Laurie Gilbert. I am in my seventies and have written short stories for as long as I can remember. I have also penned seven novels on varying themes, including a thriller, a period romance and a novel for young adults. One novel based on the emerging blues music scene in Australia entitled Savage Blues was published by a Gold Coast publishers, Zeus  in 2005 and received good reviews and a strong word of mouth acceptance.  I played bass guitar, married a bass guitarist, ran the Gold Coast Musicians’ Club until my health forced me to give it up. I was epileptic and this overtook my life for around thirty years. I have been seizure free for twenty.

Writing, for me, has always been a release from the realities of life that are sometimes hard to bear. My imagination is strong and my curiosity about life and its purpose, along with a sense of humour has been my mainstay. I love to laugh and most of my writing reflects that even in my more serious work. I love the idea of bringing a smile to a child’s face and being the cause of them turning the page of my book. My biography which is on ebooks. It title is Ups and Downs and is focussed on my long struggle with epilepsy and the accompanying bipolar disorder. I am a big believer in meditation and am hoping to instil a belief that one can accomplish anything given the right tools to work with.
